Are you more thankful than a 3rd Grader?
Cole defined thankfulness this way: "It's when you don't really like something... like your dinner... and your dad says that you should be thankful for it."
Hearing this, it dawned on me that the only time we talked about thankfulness was when our kids weren't being thankful!
But tonight, a year later, after a lovely Thanksgiving Day filled with family, laughter, and food, Cole called me to his bedroom. From his top bunk, he whispered into the darkness, "Thanks, Mom. It was a really fun day."
Thankfulness is an acquired skill. It requires noticing all of the beautifully wrapped packages that God has hidden in various places throughout the day. Being thankful involves rehearsing these blessings from the top bunk, breathing a contented sigh, and then whispering a 'Thank You' into the darkness. The Lord is never out of earshot.
